Bars Feeling The Pinch Of Square's New Price Change
Square’s recent announcement regarding their pricing change come November 1st 2019 will have a major effect on many small businesses in the USA. Instead of a flat 2.75% per transaction, Square will now be charging 2.6% plus $0.10 on each transaction.
For a small business like a bar processing even just 300 transactions of $5 every day, this change represents a loss of more than $830 in monthly revenue. That’s almost $10,000 a year and with customers having just one drink at happy hour prices, we all know that $10,000 figure will be higher.
Small businesses that were once a great fit for Square may not be such a great fit anymore. No business owner should have to sacrifice an additional $10,000 or more in revenue to accept cards, especially when they won’t receive any noticeably improved service.
